Time to catch up with games played as I have been helping the Miskatonic Playhouse with its creative endeavours you should check it out!
The Prisoner’s Dilemma – 7th Edition, 1920s
In June I played ‘The Prisoner’s Dilemma’ by TA Newman for the Miskatonic Playhouse, a website, podcast and Youtube channel which takes scenarios from the Drivethrurpg Miskatonic Repository and plays them through. Folks can then get a feel for the game if they want to run it or just listen to a play through for fun! The playhouse also has the benefit of having some games run by the authors who wrote them as we did!
The set-up for the game was my pre-generated character received a letter inviting them to meet a prison inmate to discuss, let’s just say a beneficial arrangement that would be very profitable for the two of us. Trouble is the letter sender is a prisoner at Dartmoor Gaol. (English spelling of Jail!) My character was a medical Doctor who could do with a nice raise to his credit rating so off he went to Devon to meet a prisoner!
So what was the game like? A proper little mystery with a dose of Mythos and if you survive there are some onward story threads for your Keeper to use. The main thread of the game is moving around the prison meeting the guards and inmates to find out what is going on. As my character was a doctor I was also able to find someone in dire need of medical attention and find some medical information and supplies which help later on in the game!
What did I enjoy the most? Figuring out the mystery. The initial hook led to more mystery and with some explanation and discovery made along the trail you’ll discover the truth but by then it may be too late! What would I have wanted more of in the adventure? More time to look around and follow up on some clues but being in prison, you kind of have to stick together and not wander off! Did my character make it? Well, that would be telling as you’ll be able to watch and listen to the Miskatonic Playhouse when the actual play comes out in a few months time!
