Welcome back to the Roll4Sanity July blog, and boy, has it been hot – very hot indeed. I hope nothing’s melting where you are! Looking at our calendar image, we’re back to an old favourite: Cthulhu, sitting in a bar, playing cards. In the background we’ve got our Cowboys looking on, these are supposed to be monsters, but Cthulhu is looking pretty sharp in his Wild West outfit, keeping his cards close to his chest, as he usually shows them whenever I run this scene. I do love the lighting in this one the classic blue and orange combination really captures the essence of what I was going for. Not 100% there yet, and honestly, I probably never will be, but there we are.
Productions & Editing
The Overhead Encounter is finally finished! It was a lot of fun bringing it all together, and it’s due to be released on the Playhouse in August. There’s something quite strange about finishing a project you’ve been sitting with for a while actually having to decide, “Yes, that’s done.” It’s been a similar story with the next campaign character video, which should be out around the time you’re reading this blog, if not on the very day. That one’s Henri Dawson, a campaign character for Pulp Cthulhu, and I’m very pleased with him, particularly the focus on the machine gun skill.
The Phobia Shorts are continuing too with a few more still to do but I’m also starting to think ahead to next year’s projects, since that planning tends to need to start around now. Even with two more campaign character videos still to release, I’ve got to start thinking about what’s coming in the year ahead.

Adventures Played & Forever GM
Combining these two sections this month, as it’s been a fairly quiet one on both fronts. Running Masks of Nyarlathotep B-team, we brought Swamp Song to its conclusion. No spoilers here, but the group turned out to be far less combat-orientated than I’d expected. It was lovely that they leaned towards saving people rather than resorting to violence, even if, in a Pulp Cthulhu game is suppose to be bit more “shooty-shooty”. That’s where we leave the Masks Campaign for team for now as scheduling is always the challenge with long-term campaigns, and we’re on hiatus until everyone can regroup and move on to New York, which is where the Masks of Nyarlathotep campaign really begins.
In the meantime, I’ve been playing some Delta Green. We’ve dipped into it before (it started life as a Call of Cthulhu supplement) and lets you play X-Files-style federal agents. As regular readers will know, I play Agent Armitage over on New Dawn, but for this game called Convergence I didn’t want to play a fed. Instead, I’ve gone for a geeky scientist who loves science fiction, owns an Amiga computer and works in signals analysis, studying transmissions from space and satellites. He’s probably going to get killed in the first combat, since he’s not remotely combat-orientated, though I have made sure he’s good at dodging which feels appropriate for a computer scientist who has no business carrying a gun. Naturally, within the first session we’d already been handed FBI credentials and a firearm. We’ll see what trouble that gets us into!
Conventions
Looking ahead, dates are firming up for the next Miskatonic Repository Con in October so if you fancy having a game run for you by the actual author, head over to the MRCon Discord to see what’s coming up. As usual, there’ll be a game streamed on the Miskatonic Playhouse, and I believe this year’s theme has a fire theme.
I also spotted that Pelgrane Press are running their online convention, Pelicon, later this year. That’s where I was first introduced to Night’s Black Agents so scroll back through the blog and you’ll find my review of that one. Night’s Black Agents is a little like Delta Green in some ways, though here you’re on the trail of Dracula a much more singular focus, but a lot of fun with it. If you attend Pelicon, it’s well worth signing up for a game. I went along once myself and had a genuinely good time. Between Trail of Cthulhu, Fall of Delta Green, and Night’s Black Agents, Pelgrane have built quite the horror gaming stable. Pelicon, Pelgrane Press’s online convention returning September 19–20, 2026

Looking Ahead
Turning the page to our August calendar image, and this is a really fun one — a Vietnam-era soldier, with a ghostly figure of himself looking off into the distance. What will it be? What will August bring? I think it’s going to be a busy month ahead.
Have fun, and thanks for reading and we’ll Roll4Sanity again soon.
