Every year there is a celebration of Role-playing games which uses the hashtag #rpgaday and over the days of August tweets and other media are sent out across social networks to share thoughts based on questions devised by the organisers over at Autocratik .com Just like a role-playing game scenario you don’t have to stick to the written text and create something based on the theme! I didn’t manage to do all the days over on twitter so I thought a blog post to summarise would be fun.

1) Who would you like to introduce to Role-Playing Games? Generations change but the sense of adventure remains consistent so think of all those folks watching movies now which are based on movies 20 years ago? Those are people who I’d like to introduce to RPGs as I think they’d really like it!
2) What is a great introductory Role-Play Game? The Call of Cthulhu starter set. The friend construction of this box set is amazing! The percentage base for game play is simple to understand and there is a solo adventure to explain the mechanics as you play. Call of Cthulhu also has a different approach to winning the game which is very different to a lot of other games.
3) When were you introduced to Role-Playing Games? Pretty sure it was around 1982/3. We had ‘The Warlock of Fire top Mountain’ choose your own adventure book in the book shops and the Basic Dungeons and Dragons box sets were in homes too. The artwork was amazing and the odd shape dice where a real novelty particularly when you had use a wax crayon to colour in the numbers!

4) Where would I host your first game? Roll20 would be a natural choice as I have used Roll20 to roleplay with people from across the world using Discord for the voice. Local board game shop would be a good choice as these businesses seem to be going strong and would probably welcome you bringing people in and sharing the passion for gaming.
5) Why would they like this game? This is reference to question two and like I said, the percentage-based game is very simple pick up and there is so much fun to be had rolling a ‘hard success’ or dealing with fumble!
6) How would I get more people playing RPGs? I have this blog and a YouTube channel with one video on it but doubt that will be an influencer for anyone. I do this social media just to have a place to think about my gaming without any expectation people will read it. Folks already having the creativity and imagination in them already so they just need an excuse to play!
7) Describe a cool part of a system that you love? I’m not one for negotiating a dice roll with a GM so the ability to swerve a dice roll with some luck in Call of Cthulhu I think is a nice touch and it’s great because you can limit or expand its use as folks will not allow luck to be spent on combat and physical roll or you can be like me and I’ll take a player’s luck any way I can!
8) Who introduced me to RPGs? Older brother.
9) What is the second RPG you bought? Good question as I’m a Star Frontiers fan, back in the day it was TRS competitor to Traveller and for me had much more colourful packaging so that was my purchase and I still have some of the books today! Shout out to Laserburn RPG which I also bought and played way more than Star Frontiers but Dralasites will always be cool!

10) When did I start GMing? Where were Salt and Pepper pushing it in the charts? I remember that summers as we were rolling up mutant animals for Palladiums Games Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles RPG. Another percentage-based system which had crazy levels of ‘Structural Damage Capacity’ as well as hit points.
11) If I could like in a game setting, where would it be? Not sure I would want to live in any game setting? Imagine living in Altdorf worrying about footpads and chaos beasts all the time! if I had to pick, I think Star Trek would be the safest!
12) Why did I start role-playing? It was something to do with my friends because we were crap at football! A better question for me is why are you role-playing now? I’m a Covid-19 refugee! When you can’t meet people, you really have limited options and daft as it sounds, I wasn’t expecting to find the whole community of Mythos Investigators who never stopped role-playing. I moved, got a job, developed other interests and did play any Call of Cthulhu for year and year. To get back into it, well it was like coming home.
13) How would I change the I started role playing? I don’t think I would. We came together, got a good resource book and played it. One of the best of Call of Cthulhu sessions I ever had was playing at a friend’s house when the parents were away and be actually got scare because our friend was trapped in the cellar with rats! No room for improvement there!!
14) This was a suggestion to tag some friends and suggest a new RPG to try. I didn’t do this as the folks I know don’t need telling!
15) Who would you like to Gamemaster for you? I listen to a good few actual plays and taking part in any of their game would be amazing!
16) What would be your perfect game? Well, there is no perfect game but you can look on this blog for my game of the year! There are the games for which everything slots into place, I’m happy with my character, the dice rolls don’t screw me over and I’m happy with how the game went.
17) Past, Present, or Future? When is you favourite game set? I don’t have a single favourite game setting but I guess I do steer away from modern era games as I like escapism.
18) Where is your favourite place to place. Again, no single favourite for me as I’m just happy to be playing!
19) Why has your favourite game stayed with you? Let’s rephrase that to why do you like to play the game you play the most? Call of Cthulhu is weird and unexpected! It has adaptations from all eras of history so you can play any character you like but it’s not too expansive so you can know the world in a just handful of rulebooks.

20) How long to your games last? As long as they need to?
21) Share an intriguing detail from a game setting you enjoy? Just one? Impossible!
22) Who is my current character? Nadia Byron! She is my Lara Croft style Pulp Cthulhu investigator who is just about to complete the Masks of Nyarlathotep! I really enjoy the Pulp setting with this character and have had amazing fun playing the campaign. I have also given her a voice based on Londo Mollari from Babylon Five when she is interacting with NPCs!

23) What situation is my character currently in? In what situation is my character currently? About to have lunch with a police detective so she can maybe an hour or normality before she has to kill a lot of Cultists any perhaps go insane for the final time. Hopefully she won’t have to shoot her lunch companion.
24) When did I start playing this character? January 2021 – Masks of Nyarlathotep is a long campaign.
25) Where has the character been? Easier to say where they haven’t been as the Masks campaign goes all over the world but doesn’t go to Russia.
26) Why does your character do what they do? It’s the way they were rolled!
27) How has the character changed? For character that has two guns that can fire without penalty three times each per round (Pulp Cthulhu talent) it’s quite surprising at how much Nadia will want to avoid shooting people as the campaign has progressed.
28) Tag people with some RPG art you like. They have already seen it!
29) Who would I like to see take part in #RPGaDAY? They already are? I guess would be cool to see Henry Cavil playing Call of Cthulhu but let him enjoy his Warhammer!
30) What should #RPGaDAY do for its 10th Anniversary next year? It would be nice get the questions early as we’re busy people so even finding time write a tweet each day can be problematic! Also maybe find some celebrity role-players and arrange for them to be available on Zoom for social media creators like us can maybe talk to them?
31) When did I first take part in #RPGaDAY? This year 2022
